SLU OFFERS LIBRARY SERVICES TO OFF-CAMPUS STUDENTS
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University's Sims Memorial Library and
Department of Continuing Education have teamed up to develop a library program specifically
for students who take classes "at a distance" from the university's main campus in Hammond.
According to Southeastern's spring 1998 enrollment profile, almost 2,500 of
Southeastern's 14,433 students are taking courses off campus, either at locations in St.
Tammany, Livingston and St. John the Baptist parishes or via satellite downlink and the
Internet.
The new Extended Campus Library Program is designed to ensure that students have
access to and can effectively use library and research materials, said Southeastern librarian Beth
Orgeron, who is heading up the new service.
As Extended Campus Services Librarian, Orgeron will consult with off-campus students
about their research needs and will send them library materials by mail, fax or electronic
delivery. She also will assist students who want to use their home computers to connect to the
Library's databases and the Internet.
To contact the Extended Campus Services Librarian, call or e-mail Orgeron at 504-549-
3821 or eorgeron@selu.edu.
