DON MARSHALL NAMED INTERIM DIRECTOR OF SOUTHEASTERN FANFARE
HAMMOND -- Veteran arts administrator and presenter Don Marshall has been named
interim director of Fanfare, Southeastern Louisiana University's annual festival of the arts,
humanities and sciences.
Marshall has directed Southeastern's Clark Hall Gallery and Cultural Resource Management
Program for the past four years. His interim appointment fills the vacancy created by the March 1
retirement of Fanfare's founder and long-time artistic director Harriet Vogt.
John Miller, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, said a university search committee
will select a permanent artistic director of Southeastern's13-year-old arts festival by May and that
Marshall will continue to direct the gallery and CRM program while serving as interim director.
"Don has extensive experience in management, performance, presenting organizations,
fund-raising and grant writing," Miller said. "Having grown up in New Orleans and lived on the
north shore, he is well-known and respected in the arts and presenting community."
Before coming to Southeastern, Marshall was executive director of the St. Tammany Art
Association and New Orleans' Le Petit Theatre du Vieux Carre. He was chairman and co-founder
of the New Orleans Film and Video Festival, founder and director of the Louis Armstrong
Classic
Jazz Festival, executive director and co-founder of the Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary
Festival and executive director of New Orleans Contemporary Arts Center.
He is a graduate of Washington and Lee University and currently is seeking a master's
degree in arts administration from the University of New Orleans.
