STUDENTS ALLOCATED ADDITIONAL PARKING ON CAMPUS
HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana
University upperclass students next week will gain 74 parking spots on
campus under a reallocation plan based on parking-usage evaluations.
Brad O’Hara, vice president for student affairs, said an estimated
80 additional new spots should also be available beginning next semester.
Beginning Monday (Oct. 27), upperclass
students will be allocated 15 new spaces in a row of parking adjacent to
the President’s residence in the Spruce Street lot. A total of 26 spaces
will be made available to upperclass students on west side of SGA Drive
from Holloway-Smith residence hall to Sims Memorial Library; and three
rows with 33 parking spots will be opened to upperclass students in the
lot behind the Recreation Center, commonly known as the Old Men’s Gym.
Signage designating the new student
parking areas will be in place by Monday.
“The Parking and Transportation
Committee agreed that these spots would be better utilized at this time
by students,” O’Hara said.
O’Hara announced that next semester
approximately 80 new spots will be made available to students when the
work is completed on two adjacent North Oak Street properties recently
purchased by Southeastern. The work involves demolition of a small residence,
leveling and grading of the property, gravel placement, and installation
of parking logs.
“These changes should result
in considerable improvement in parking conditions for our students,” O’Hara
said. “We continually look for ways to improve parking on campus and monitor
the situation on a regular basis in order to determine optimal usage of
the space we have available.” |
