SLU LIBRARY CELEBRATES NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK, APRIL 1-6
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University's Sims Memorial Library will
celebrate April 1-6 as National Library Week with a week-long library scavenger hunt, drawings
for free prizes, and a variety special events. The library is expanding this year's national theme,
"@yourlibrary," to showcase not only what can be found at Sims Library but how the
information can be accessed from home or office.
As an added bonus, fines will be excused for those overdue materials returned during the
week.
Southeastern faculty and graduate students can attend "our library@your home office"
workshops featuring netLibrary, Uncover and remote access improvements on Monday, April 2
or Thursday, April 5 from 1-2 p.m. Reservations should be made through the Center for Faculty
Excellence at 5791.
Students, faculty and staff are invited to "research@your library" in the Reference
Department at 10 a.m. or 2 p.m on Wednesday, April 4, to learn about the new, simpler remote
access to library databases. No reservations are required.
All are invited to special events, featuring Southeastern faculty:
prize-winning author and English professor Tim Gautreaux will read from his works on
Tuesday, April 3 at 2 p.m., with a book-signing immediately afterwards. Punch and cake will be
served following the reading, with live jazz provided by Danny Acosta and friends.
Southeastern English professor and poet Jack Bedell and the Creative Writing Group
will present a "poetry slam@sims library" at 6 p.m., Wednesday, April 4.
A used book sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, on the
