SOUTHEASTERN-LIVINGSTON SCHOOL SYSTEM SIGN COURSE AGREEMENTS
HAMMOND Officials from Southeastern Louisiana University and the Livingston
Parish School Board signed agreements Thursday, March 29, that will allow Livingston public
high school students to earn college credit.
Under the agreements, students at Livingston Parish public high schools can be awarded
three hours of nursing credit at Southeastern after successfully completing the schools' Certified
Nursing Assistant Program and an examination at the university. The student will receive credit
for Nursing 214, a course in medical terminology, once he or she has enrolled at Southeastern.
"What we've accomplished is a beginning step toward additional articulation agreements
in other areas in the state," said Donna Seale, director of Southeastern's Division of
Technical/Career Education. "This shows partnership and cooperation and awards students in
the certified nursing program with three hours university credit after the process of assessment."
Southeastern College of Nursing and Health Sciences Dean Donnie Booth said the
partnership benefits both parties. "The College of Nursing looks forward to the continuing
partnership with Livingston Parish," she said. "Above all, we are extremely excited about having
quality students come to Southeastern to continue their nursing education."
Livingston is the second parish to partner with Southeastern to offer high school students
a head start on higher education. Last June, the university joined with the St. Tammany Parish
School System to offer public high school students credit in eight courses ranging from
Introduction to Computing to Education for Teacher Aides. Previous agreements between
Southeastern and St. Tammany include courses in drafting design, office administration and
career planning.

"These partnerships add up to nice bonuses for hard-working high school students," said
Southeastern President Sally Clausen. "Educational endeavors such as these are what makes
Southeastern strong as a university and the school systems and students strong as our partners."
