HUNGARIAN FOLK MUSIC ENSEMBLE AT SLU MARCH 2 & 3
HAMMOND, LA -- The ™kr”s Folk Music Ensemble of Budapest, Hungary will
perform at Southeastern Louisiana University, Monday March 2 and and Tuesday, 3 7:30 pm in
the Pottle Music Building Auditorium. The concert is sponsored by the Southeastern Music
Department, the SLU Arts and Lectures Committee and The Arpadhon Hungarian Settlement
Cultural Association.
The ™kr”s Ensemble showcases the artistry of authentic and unique Hungarian folk
music. Featured performer in the group is 75 year old Sandor Fordor "Neti", hailed as the last
great gypsy violinist in the Kalotaszeg region of Transylvania.
Neti and the other members of the group have played at village weddings, toured Western
Europe and America and performed on several recordings.
The ™kr”s Folk Music Ensemble is the leading folk revival band in Hungary. Csaba
™kr”s, the leader of the Ensemble is one of the most respected revival violinists in Hungary
while Kalman Balogh is an internally celebrated cimbalom (hammer dulcimer) artist.
Tickets for the ™kr”s Ensemble performance are $10 general admission $5 senior citizens
and free for students and will be available from 10 a.m.-noon in the Pottle Music Building lobby
March 2 and 3. Tickets also can be ordered by mail: SLU Music Department, SLU 815,
