SLU ANNOUNCES OPEN REGISTRATION POLICY
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University has launched a new "open
registration" policy that will benefit both students and the university.
Beginning June 28, upperclass and graduate students can register for fall classes and
make schedule changes from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays through August 17, said Stephen
Soutullo, director of Academic Services. Fall semester classes begin August 27.
Previously, while students could apply for admission at any time, they could only register
or change their schedules during specific registration or "drop-add" periods.
"When it comes to registering for classes, the philosophy is 'the sooner the better,'"
Soutullo said. "The earlier students register, the more likely they are to get the classes they need
and the class times they want. And from an administrative standpoint, we would like to move as
many students as we can through the registration process in a timely manner."
Soutullo said those eligible to participate in the open registration period include
students who have already registered and want to adjust their schedules
students who had appointments to register early, but have not yet registered
new upperclass and graduate students who have completed the application process
summer school students who have not yet registered for fall.
Beginning freshmen and new transfer freshmen will have access to the open registration
system after they have attended one of Southeastern's orientation programs.
Since many departments require academic advising before a student registers, Soutullo
said advisors will be available each Thursday during the open registration period. "Students
should contact the departments to make an advising appointment if necessary," he said.
Southeastern's course registration system is accessible from any computer with Internet

capability. Computers are available to students in computer labs on campus and at the St.
Tammany Center and the Baton Rouge Nursing Center. Labs generally are open during regular
business hours, but students may want to check the operating times of specific labs.
The Baton Rouge Campus, located at 4849 Essen Lane (across from Our Lady of the
Lake Hospital), can be contacted by phone at 225-765-2324. The St. Tammany satellite office is
housed in Southeastern's St. Tammany Center, located in the parish government complex, 21454
Koop Drive. Koop Drive is located off Hwy. 59, just north of Abita Springs. The phone number
is 504-893-6251.
Financial aid counselors are also located at the Baton Rouge office from 1 to 4:30 p.m. on
Wednesdays and the St. Tammany office from 1 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays.
