SLU LAUNCHES PRIDE DAY
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University officials are asking faculty, staff and
students to wear clothing bearing the university's name and logos on the first monday of each
month, beginning Dec. 4.
Southeastern Pride Day will become a permanent monthly event to encourage pride in the
university.
"Pride Day is a direct outcome of the planning retreat held last month," said Southeastern
president Sally Clausen. "University officials, faculty and students attending the retreat felt that
Southeastern has accomplished so much to be proud of in recent years. They also felt that
everyone should demonstrate pride in Southeastern. In fact, one of the university's strategic goals
for the year 2000 is to generate pride in the university."
To encourage participation in Pride Day, Southeastern's bookstore is giving a 20 percent
discount on Southeastern clothing on the first monday of the month.
University officials also will work with the Hammond Chamber of Commerce to ask
community businesses and offices to celebrate pride day by placing Southeastern banners and
other university objects in store windows.
