RECORDER VIRTUOSA TO APPEAR AT SLU MARCH 13
HAMMOND -- Eva Legˆne, a virtuosa on the archaic instrument, the recorder, will
present a guest concert at Southeastern Louisiana University March 13.
Legˆne, who is professor of music at Indiana University's renowned Early Music
Institute, will perform at 2 p.m. in the Music Recital Hall. Her concert is free.
Legˆne is a soloist of international standing and a celebrated teacher and lecturer at early
music festivals. She has inspired new compositions for the recorder and performs by modern and
baroque music on her seven recorders. The instruments are copies of wooden and ivory
instruments crafted between about 1600 and 1750.
"In her hands," said the Milwaukee Journal, "the humble recorder was so rich and varied
that her instruments seemed not dead and historical, but alive with possibility."
Legˆne's concert is sponsored by the SLU music department. For additional information,
call the department at 549-2184.
