SLU BUDGET AND TOP ADMINISTRATION REORGANIZATION APPROVED BY
BOARD OF TRUSTEES

HAMMOND -- The Louisiana Board of Trustees has approved the reorganization of
Southeastern Louisiana University's top administration with the adoption of the university's
$54.1 million operating budget for the current fiscal year.
Randy Moffett, former associate provost for academic affairs, has been named vice
president for planning, research and development. Gerald Guidroz's position as director of
continuing education has been elevated to dean of continuing education. Stephen Soutullo,
director of enrollment services, also was named university registrar.
Moffett came to Southeastern in 1976 as assistant registrar. Since that time, he has served
as director of continuing education, head of the department of education and later dean of the
College of Education. Guidroz, who served as head of state parks from 1984 to 1988, has been a
member of the SLU faculty and staff since 1969. Soutullo served as director of high school
relations from 1981 to 1992 when he was named director of enrollment services.
In announcing the reorganization, SLU President Sally Clausen said she will "evaluate
the effectiveness of this organization during the next year. It is my belief that this reorganization
will result in a more effective operation of the university."
The reorganization plan states specific goals:
-- Move the division of student affairs from the provost's office to a new division,
reporting directly to the president. This change was recommended by the Board of Trustees and
during last year's reaccreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The
change also is designed to give the provost more time to work with deans in developing new
academic and faculty development programs.
-- Recognize the importance of planning in keeping with the Southern Association of
Colleges and School's emphasis on planning and assessment of university activities.
-- Emphasize the importance of continuing education to Southeastern's future.
"The reorganization and redistribution of responsibilities," said Clausen in her memo,
"results in an administrative cost savings of approximately $45,000." Savings will come from
elimination of one position through the merger of the offices of institutional research, evaluation
and assessment and by abolishing the position of vice provost.
