GERMAN STUDENTS TO EARN MBA DEGREES AT SLU
HAMMOND -- The Southeastern Louisiana University College of Business and the
Reutlingen University/FH Reutlingen School of International Business in Reutlingen, Germany,
have established an agreement which will allow German students to earn a Master of Business
Administration degree from Southeastern.
Southeastern President Sally Clausen and Reutlingen Rector Georg Obieglo signed the
formal agreement to establish the new program Sept. 29 when Clausen visited Reutlingen. "This
agreement will provide tremendous opportunities for growth for Reutlingen's students as well as
our students and faculty," Clausen said. "Southeastern is pleased to expand its efforts to educate
graduates who can compete in a global economy."
"We have an obligation as educators to produce globalized citizens," Obieglo said. He
also spoke of his hope that the agreement would become a "two-way street." The first part of the
partnership allows Southeastern to accept students, but does not address our sending students, he
said. Dr. Clausen assured him that this will be a goal for the future.
Brad O'Hara, director of the Southeastern MBA program, said the program will begin
during the current semester at Reutlingen, and Southeastern will admit the first German students
to its MBA program in the Year 2000. Approximately 20 students will attend Southeastern each
year as part of the agreement. O'Hara and Clausen had an opportunity to meet the future
Southeastern students during the students' first day of class in Germany.
"Reutlingen is the number one business school in Germany," O'Hara said. "This

agreement allows Southeastern to attract very high caliber international students to our MBA
program. We are now one of two institutions in the United States working with Reutlingen. The
other is Portland State University in Oregon."
The agreement also provides, based on the availability of funds and the need for specific
courses, for Southeastern faculty who meet FH Reutlingen faculty credential criteria to teach
courses at Reutlingen and for Reutlingen faculty who meet Southeastern graduate faculty
credential criteria to teach courses at Southeastern.
