SLU RIDESHARE PROGRAM IS A POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO PARKING PROBLEMS
HAMMOND Finding a ride to school if your car breaks down, driving an hour or more
to school and back several days a week and finding a place to park -- these are universal problems
for commuter students that Southeastern Louisiana University's new Rideshare Program is
attempting to solve.
According to Bridget Bailey, a graduate assistant in the Office of Adult and Commuter
Services (ACVS) who helped develop the Rideshare Program, Southeastern students who want
to car pool with someone can visit the web page at www.selu.edu/ACVS/pool.html and click on
the ACVS Web Board to find a potential car pool partner. The listing shows students' e-mail
addresses, where they are commuting from, and the times and days they have classes.
While the listings can be viewed by anyone, in order to respond or post a message,
students must have an access password, which can be obtained from the Office of Adult and
Commuter Services in the War Memorial Student Union, Room 204..
Drivers who wish to put a message on the board must submit their social security numbers
and drivers license numbers, which will also help to locate them in the case of an emergency.
"If everyone enrolled at Southeastern would find a partner to share a ride with to school
each day, our parking problem could be cut in half," Bailey said.
The Rideshare Program is open to all Southeastern students, faculty and staff. Those
interested in the program can contact Southeastern's Office of Adult Commuter and Veteran
Services at 504-549-2213.
