AWARD WINNING PRODUCER TO LECTURE, SCREEN FILMS AT SLU
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University will host a free screening and lecture
with Oscar-nominated, award winning producer, director and writer, Nina Rosenblum, Monday
March 8. Rosenblum's film "The Untold West: The Black West" will be shown at 2pm in the
SLU
Student Union Theatre and "Liberators: Fighting On Two Fronts in World War II" will be shown
at 7pm. at the Hammond Regional Arts Center.
Rosenblum will speak before each showing and answer questions from the audience. The
president of Daedalus Productions, Rosenblum has produced and directed for PBS, HBO, TBS,
ABC, NBC, Channel Four/UK,WDR/Germany, La Sept, France and SBS/Australia. She is a
member of the Directors Guild of America, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences
and Women in Film.
In 1992 Rosenblum was nominated for an Oscar for the Denzel Washington and Louis
Gossett, Jr narrated PBS documentary, "Liberators: Fighting on Two Fronts in World War II".
The film bears witness to the role African-Americans played in the defeat of the Nazis. It honors
the heroism of men who were forced to fight on two fronts battling discrimination at home as
they fought for their country overseas.
This effort was followed by a 1994 Emmy for the acclaimed TBS program, "The
Untold West: The Black West." The film, part two of a three part series, tells the unknown story
of African-American cowboys, rodeo riders and Hollywood's Black Westerns. Narrated by
Danny Glover, it blends documentary with dramatic segments to produce a memorable film that
has widened the audience for historical non-fiction televison.
Rosenblum's visit is sponsored by the Arts and Lectures committee. The lecture and films
are free and open to the public. For more information call 549-5080.
