SALOMONE RECEIVES DISTINGUISHED CAREER AWARD
     HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University's Jerome J. Salomone has received
the Mid-South Sociological Association's "Distinguished Career Award" for his contributions to
the profession of sociology.
     Salomone, scholar in residence in Southeastern's Sociology, Social Work and Criminal
Justice department and former dean of the College of Humanities, is a former MSSA president
and long-time member. In presenting him with the award, MSSA's Dennis R. McSeveney of the
University of New Orleans said, "I cannot think of anyone in the history of the MSSA who is
more deserving of our Distinguished Career Award than Dr. Jerome J. Salomone."
     Salomone, who received his doctorate from Louisiana State University, chaired and
helped expand the sociology department at the University of New Orleans before joining the
Southeastern faculty in 1980 as Dean of the College of Humanities. Since stepping down as dean,
he has been active in teaching and writing.
     In addition to serving as MSSA president in 1980-81, he was a co-editor of "Sociological
Spectrum." He also is a former chair and board member of the Louisiana Endowment for the
Humanities.
