DOMIANO IS HEAD OF SLU'S CAREER DEVELOPMENT SERVICES
HAMMOND -- Sam Domiano of Independence has been named director of Career
Development Services at Southeastern Louisiana University.
Domiano, who received his undergraduate degree from Southeastern in 1989 and an
MBA in 1995, began his Southeastern career as area coordinator for residential life before being
appointed interim director of the student union in 1997.
As director of Career Development Services Domiano hopes to reach out more to all
students, bring in more employers, and create more partnerships.
"A big part of my job is to market Career Development Services to different target
audiences, from the students to graduates to outside industry," said Domiano.
"A lot of different things are being done around the campus, such as other areas that have
their own career service efforts. We want to be accessible to them and work with them and try to
streamline our efforts so that we can be more accountable and can easily document what
Southeastern is doing as a university.
"We want to capitalize on technology, how it can help us, the students and employers,"
said Domiano. The department has already incorporated "1st Place" software which allows
students to access employers through the web. Domiano said this is an opportunity to reach
employers who wouldn't come to campus.
Domiano says he and his department are also planning to work closely with alumni. "We
hope to build good partnerships. We want students to know we're accessible to them even after
they graduate. We want to build relationships with alumni so it can hopefully benefit other
students and serve as contacts for other jobs."

Domiano said the department is conducting assessments in order to serve the population
better. "We need to know what our students want, see where we are and also to look at other
institutions and learn from their mistakes and successes."
"I'm a cheerleader for the students, letting employers know what quality students we have
and getting them here to make the connections. Once the employers are here, the students sell
themselves."
Domiano said there is a lot he and his staff want to do. "Our new facility is state of the art
and that's a good first step. This facility speaks a lot about the institution, it's a good presentation
of the university and it's a place where students want to come," said Domiano.
"The potential is so great here, there is so much we can do and I'm looking forward to the
challenge."
