SOUTHEASTERN HOSTS SAXOPHONE WORKSHOPS FOR HIGH SCHOOL MUSICIANS
HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University’s Department of Music and Dramatic Art will host five weekend workshops beginning Oct. 17.
Twenty-four talented high school saxophonists from around the state have been invited to participate in the workshops which will be led by saxophone instructor Richard A. Schwartz, the university’s new director of jazz ensembles.
Each workshop will feature a different area of interest and the students will perform in a saxophone quartet. They will also attend a big band saxophone section, learn some of their favorite rock and roll saxophone solos, brush up on the fundamentals of saxophone technique, and learn new extended techniques.
All five master classes will be held on Sundays, ending on Nov. 14 in the Ralph R. Pottle Music Building on Southeatern’s campus. For more information on the workshops, contact Schwartz at (985) 549-5938 or email him at richard.schwartz@selu.edu.
