PAYROLL  TAXES  SEMINAR  FEB  4  &  FEB  10 
     HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University's Small Business
Development Center, the Dixie Business Development Center and the Northshore
SCORE chapter will sponsor a seminar on  "Calculating and Reporting Payroll Taxes,"
Thursday Feb. 4 and Wednesday Feb 10. 
     The seminar will be held  at the Dixie Business Development Center in Denham
Springs 9:30 am -11:30 am on Feb 4 and at the University Center at Southeastern
Louisiana University 2 pm- 4 pm on Feb. 10. 
     The seminar will cover payroll tax reporting responsibilities, determining
independent contractor vs. employee status, calculating payroll taxes, completing all
necessary forms, occupational licenses, reporting life and disability fringe benefits, and
tips on developing a computer based payroll system. 
     Byron Garrety, CPA and Tax Manager, with the accounting firm, Durnin &
James, CPAs is the seminar presenter. Garrety was formerly with the Internal Revenue
Service as a Revenue Agent. 
      The cost to attend each seminar is $20 and $10 for each additional person from
the same company. Pre-registration is recommended as seating is limited. Handouts and
