SLU SBDC SPONSORS SEMINAR ON PATENTS AND INVENTIONS
     HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University's Small Business Development
Center will host "start from scratch" seminars on patents and inventions in Denham Springs and
Mandeville on May 2.
     The seminar will be offered from 9 a.m. to noon at the Dixie Business Development
Center in Denham Springs and from 5:30 -8:30 p.m. at the Mandeville Community Center.
Registration is $20 per participant.
     Robert Montgomery, a licensed patent agent and president of Southern Technology
Development in Lafayette, will direct the seminar. Montgomery has worked with hundreds of
companies and individuals throughout Louisiana to patent, license and market new products.
     Montgomery will outline the invention process "from beginning to end," said SBDC
training coordinator Bobbie Boudreaux. Topics to be discussed include concepts and ideas;
necessary technical drawings; obtaining research on the inventor's product and market;
protecting the inventor's ideas with patents, trademarks and copyrights; determining when
prototypes are necessary, their cost, how to obtain them; preparing product introduction
materials; manufacturing and selling the invention and selling the rights to the invention.
     To register by phone, call Bobbie Boudreaux at 504-549-3831.
