SLU TO HOST REGION EIGHT SCIENCE FAIRS
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University will host high school and elementary
students from five Florida Parishes at the annual Region Eight Science Fair, scheduled March 22
and 23 at the Southeastern University Center.
Fourth, fifth and six-graders in the Elementary Division will display their projects on
Thursday, March 22, while Junior and Senior Division students -- grades seven to 12 -- will
compete in categories ranging from Behavioral Sciences to Zoology on Friday, March 23.
Southeastern professors Lydia McCardle of the Department of Teaching and Learning
and Ana M. Wills of the Department of Mathematics are coordinating the elementary and
junior/senior fairs, respectively. Wills, who takes over direction of the Junior/Senior Region
Eight fair this year from long-time coordinator and chemistry professor Ralph Shaw, said
February 16 is the deadline for entries.
Information packets and entry forms have been mailed to schools in Tangipahoa, St.
Helena, Livingston, St. Tammany and Washington Parishes. However, any school or teacher
needing additional packets or information may contact Wills at 504-549-2660 or

Junior and Senior Division Region Eight winners will advance to the state Science Fair at
Louisiana State University on March 29-31.
