SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA WRITING PROJECT TO PRESENT WORKSHOP
HAMMOND -- The Southeastern Louisiana Writing Project (SLWP) at Southeastern
Louisiana University will host a professional development workshop on teaching writing
Saturday, Oct. 30.
Scheduled for 8:30 a.m.-noon, the workshop will be held in Room 125 of the
Southeastern University Center. The program includes teaching demonstrations by SLWP
classroom teachers, one-on-one poster sessions, and roundtable grade level discussions on
writings and standards, Southeastern English professor Richard Louth, director of the SLWP,
said.
Pre-registration is $10 for SLWP teachers, $15 for all others. Registration at the door is
$20.
Louth said the workshop will offer sessions for high school, junior high/middle school,
elementary and content area teachers on the role of writing in helping students meet new state
standards. It also will include poster exhibits of SLWP Teacher Consultants' best teaching
practices.
The Southeastern Louisiana Writing Project is one of six National Writing Project sites in
Louisiana that train and network "good teachers teaching teachers." Teacher Consultants are
specially trained through the SLWP's annual Summer Institute and share good writing practices
with their fellow educators.
For additional information, contact Louth at 504-549-2102/2100 or rlouth@selu.edu.
