SOUTHEASTERN TO OFFER SMOKING CESSATION CLASS

     HAMMOND-- The Recreational Sports and Wellness Department of Southeastern
Louisiana University will offer a Smoking Cessation class to all SLU students, faculty, staff,
alumni, and community members beginning October 1. The class, consisting of eight sessions,
provides participants with the necessary tools to quit smoking.  Smoking Cessation class opens
with an orientation program from 5:00 - 6:30 pm entitled  Thinking About Quitting   facilitated
by Michelle Bates, Page Wright, and Linda Tycer.  The schedule for the remaining sessions
follows:
October 5 5:00 - 8:00 pm    Discussion of general health effects of smoking
October 15                               5:00 - 8:00 pm   Motivation and conditioning and how people can 
                                    quit smoking
October 20                               5:00 - 8:00 pm   Participants make a personal and public
commitment to quit
                                   smoking             
October 22                               5:00 - 8:00 pm   Quit Day
October 29                               5:00 - 8:00 pm   Emphasizes launching a new lifestyle as a
nonsmoker

The fee schedule for participation in the Smoking Cessation class is $12.00 for SLU students,
$18.00 for active SLU alumni, $24.00 for SLU faculty and staff, and $36.00 for community
members.   We encourage all interested persons to come out and participate,   Bates said

QUIT SMOKING WITH SLU S SMOKING CESSATION PROGRAM HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University s Recreational Sports and Wellness Department is offering a Smoking Cessation class Thursdays, 5-8 pm October 1 - November 19.
