EDITORS: PHOTO ACCOMPANIES RELEASE -- PLEASE NOTE LOCAL INTEREST
SLU SOCIAL STUDIES FAIR WINNERS ANNOUNCED 
     HAMMOND -- Winners of the annual Region VIII Social Studies Fair, hosted March 18 
by Southeastern Louisiana University have been announced. Grand prize winners for individual
and group projects were chosen in three divisions Division I (grades 4-6) Division II (grades 7-8)
Division III (grades 9-12).  They will advance to the State Social Studies Fair at Louisiana State
University.
DIVISION I - INDIVIDUAL: First--Daniel Winkler, Carolyn Park Middle School (Slidell)
"Election 1996"; Runner-up--Tim Cole, Pine View Middle School (Covington), "Who Owns The
Past."
GROUP:  First-- Jennifer Whitt, Emily Brumfield, Mandeville Middle School, "Footsteps Of The
Past"; Runner-up-- Jason Arpin and Timothy Dunn, Northlake Christian School (Covington),
"Martial Arts From Past To Present."
DIVISION II - INDIVIDUAL: John Guerin, Holy Ghost, "Product Downsizing"; Runner-up-Ian
Beaushaw, Pearl River Junior High, "Vikings The Myth And The Reality."
GROUP:  Teresa Kloepfer and Amanda Rusich, Fountainbleau High School (Mandeville), "Mind
in Turmoil:  Facts About Alzheimers"; Runner-up--Emily Simon Thomas and Heather Vinet,
Cedarwood (Mandeville), "Fire In The Night."
DIVISION III  - INDIVIDUAL: First-- Jacob Gardner, St. Paul's School (Covington), "Whose
Land Is It"; Runner-up--Robin Samson, Covington High, "Salem Witch Trails."
