SOCIAL STUDIES FAIR WINNERS ANNOUNCED AT SLU
HAMMOND, LA -- One hundred and twenty five schools participated in the 1998 social
studies fair at Southeastern Louisiana University March 17. Grand prize winners for individual
and group projects were chosen in three divisions Division I (grades 4-6) Division II (grades 7-8)
Division III (grades 9-12). The winners will advance to the State Social Studies Fair. The
winners were:
DIVISION I- INDIVIDUAL: Grand Prize-Alison Greenlee, Tfuncte Middle School "Money,
Money, Money";Runner-Up- Jonathan Schroeder, St. Peter (Covington) "Naval Battles of the
Ionian War."
DIVISON I - GROUP: Grand Prize -Ashleigh Dellatte & Yui Hagiwara, Cedarwood
(Mandeville), "Japanese Women: New Roles, Ancient Traditions"; Runner Up- Allison Graff &
Karen Waldrup, Mandeville Middle School, "Stocks: Risky for Kids."
DIVISION II- INDIVIDUAL:Grand Prize- Brad McKee - Holy Ghost , "A Race Against Time";
Runner up -Erin Rode, Trafton Academy (Hammond) "GI Joe?"
DIVISION II- GROUP: Grand Prize-Alexandra Dore & Katie Jardine, Cedarwood (Mandeville)
"Hong Kong: So Far, So Good"; Runner up- Lindsay Blomquist & Jessica Durham, SLU Lab
School, "American Indian Dwellings."
DIVISION III- INDIVIDUAL: Grand Prize-Vyshali Manivannan, Hammond High, "The Lost
City of Atlantis"; Runner up- Nicolas Parnell, Hammond High, "The Natives of Central
America."
DIVISION III- GROUP: Grand Prize- Owen Mogabgab & James Massey, St. Paul's School
(Covington), "Outside the Line: The Media"; Runner-Up-Martin deLaureal & Aaron Mielke, St.
Paul's School, "The Modern Nasdaq."
