SOUTHEASTERN STUDENT ACCEPTED INTO MFA PROGRAM 
     HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University student Brian Spears has been
accepted into the master of fine arts program in creative writing at the University of Arkansas.   
     Spears, a senior English major from Loranger, was also awarded a teaching assistantship
and a fellowship. Spears, who will graduate from Southeastern in May, has served as poetry
editor for Gambit, a campus student literary magazine, and the annual SLU Journal of Creative
Writing and is currently the Opinions Editor of the Lions Roar student newspaper.
      The recipient of the D. Vickers Memorial Scholarship is a member of the Southeastern
Creative Writers Group and his poems have been accepted for publication in The Small Pond
Magazine of Literature, Pegasus and the Concho River Review. 
     Spears' poetry has also appeared in Gambit and Outside the Lines, the annual chapbook
collection of poetry and fiction published by the SLU Creative Writers Group.
