TWO WIN NEW DIVISION OF STUDENT AFFAIRS SERVICE AWARD
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University assistant dean Jim McHodgkins and
secretary Patricia Morris have been chosen by their peers to receive a new service award in the
university's Division of Student Affairs.
The "Vice President's Awards for Outstanding Service" for professional (unclassified)
and support (classified) staff were presented by Vice President for Student Affairs Patsy Causey
at the division's annual awards convocation in late April.
McHodgkins, who joined the Southeastern staff as director of the intramurals program in
1987, was described by his fellow Division of Student Affairs employees as "always there when
you need him. He always seems to have the right answers for any problem." Colleagues also
cited his "genuine concern for the improvement and progress of SLU" and described him as "a
great mentor."
McHodgkins, a native of Pueblo, Colo., earned his master's degree from Louisiana State
University. He was named assistant dean for student development in 1996.
Morris, who is Causey's secretary, has worked at Southeastern since 1965. She previously
was secretary for the department of chemistry and physics, Colleges of Science and Technology
and Arts and Sciences, Provost, and director of Academic Services. A native of Raceland who
grew up in Napoleonville, she has lived in Hammond for more than 30 years.
Morris, known on campus as "Pitty Pat," was praised by her peers for her
professionalism, dedication, efficiency, positive attitude and hard work. "She is always pleasant
and helpful in any way possible," her colleagues said.
