SLU STUDENT UNION CELEBRATES  RE-OPENING  OCT 6-8

     HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University s War Memorial Student
Union will celebrate its official grand  re-opening  October 6- 8.
     Several changes were made to the union over the summer to improve services for
the students. The Union now houses the Follett bookstore, the newly renovated campus
post office, Southeastern s Career Center, game room, a food court and coffee shop as
well as office space and meeting rooms. A copy center is currently under construction. 
     The Student Union Celebration kicks off on Tuesday, Oct. 6 with a ribbon cutting
at 10 am. President Sally Clausen will cut a giant ribbon for the entire union. The
bookstore, career development center and Aramark Food Services will also have
individual ribbon cuttings. The Follett bookstore will have prize drawings for students
throughout the day. 
     Other activities scheduled for the week are a  Back to the Future  student event on
Wednesday where student organizations representing the 1950's, 60's, 70', 80's and 90's
will sell goods and showcase their organizations. Thursday, Oct 8, 11am- 1 pm, local
businesses will participate in  Business Day. Community/Alumni night is also set for
Thursday,  5-7 pm. 
     The public is invited to attend the Community/Alumni night where activites
include a booksigning by local authors, John Kemp author of  New Orleans A Illustrated
History,  and Shirley Porter author of the children s book,  You Are Sunshine.

Student Union Celebration/ADD ONE

     The Student Union Ballroom will be the site of a  Walk Through Time Gallery of
past and current photos of the union. The Jazz Professors band will perform, and a limited
number of commemorative Student Union Celebration calendars will be given to guests. 
     The current War Memorial Student Union was built in 1966 and dedicated to the
memory of those Southeastern students who fought in World War II. The Student Union
Annex was completed in 1983. The union is the center of activity for students, faculty and
staff.
