UNIVERSITY OF LOUISIANA BOARD APPROVES TUITION WAIVER FOR SLU'S
SUPERIOR HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS PROGRAM
     HAMMOND -- Beginning this summer, qualified students can enroll in Southeastern
Louisiana University's "Superior High School Junior Program" tuition free.
     The University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors on Friday (March 24)
approved a tuition waiver for the program, which allows qualified high school students to get a
head start on college courses.
     Southeastern  President Sally Clausen said the university will waive tuition for up to two
courses per semester for students who have completed their junior year in high school and who
have earned either a cumulative high school grade point average of 3.0 and a composite ACT
score of 19 or have earned a composite score of 25 on the ACT. 
     She said the program allows qualified high school students to enroll in up to two courses
per semester if they meet the courses' prerequisites, have permission from their high school
principal, and there is space available in the course they want to take.
     "By enabling these students to earn college credit during their last year of high school,
this program will assist the university in attracting a higher-quality student as the university
moves to new quality admission standards in the fall," Clausen said.
     University of Louisiana System President Bobby Jindal said the Superior High School 
Junior Program is consistent with his initiative to create a "seamless education experience" by
working with the K-12 system to help prepare high school students for success in college and to
offer opportunities for advanced credit and placement in college courses.
     "We commend Southeastern for this new opportunity to recruit and keep the best students
here in Louisiana," Jindal said. "We are offering top-notch high school students a head start on
college by making it easier financially for the to take college courses for advanced credit."
