DONATION TO SUPPORT SLWP SUMMER INSTITUTE PARTICIPANTS
HAMMOND -- Clinton Montz Jr., a retired
New Orleans banker, has made a $3,000 donation to Southeastern Louisiana
University’s Susan Wren Fund to underwrite an annual dinner for participants
in the university’s Southeastern Louisiana Writing Project (SLWP) summer
institute.
The fund honors the late Susan Wren,
a Southeastern English professor and co-director of the SLWP from 1996-1998.
SLWP Co-Director Richard Louth said
Wren helped write the SLWP’s “Rural Voices, Country Schools” grant, which
provided three years of National Writing Project and Annenberg Foundation
funding for the SLWP’s work with rural schools.
“Susan’s work helped SLWP deliver workshops
on writing for local teachers, produce anthologies of student and teacher
writing, and air two radio programs featuring the writing of students and
teachers,” Louth said.
In addition to underwriting the “Susan
Wren Memorial Pre-Institute Dinner" for teachers accepted each year into
SLWP's Invitational Summer Institute, Montz's donation will also support
school year work with writing project teachers and scholarships to SLWP's
Young Writer's Camp each summer, Louth said. |
