U.S. REP. BILLY TAUZIN TO PRESENT ANNUAL MORRISON LECTURE
HAMMOND --U.S. Rep. W.J. "Billy" Tauzin will present Southeastern Louisiana
University's sixth annual James H. Morrison Lecture on Politics and Government at 1 p.m. on
Monday, April 24 in the university's Pottle Music Building Auditorium.
The annual lecture, sponsored by Southeastern's Center for Regional Studies and College
of Arts and Sciences, honors James H. "Jimmy" Morrison, the Hammond native who represented
Louisiana's Sixth Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1943-1967.
The lecture explores critical and topical events pertaining to public policy. Previous speakers
who have included U.S. Senators John Breaux and Mary Landrieu, state Sen. John Hainkel and
state Rep. Henry "Tank" Powell,
Tauzin's lecture, which is free to the public, will be followed by a reception in the Oak
Grove Room of Twelve Oaks Dining Hall.
Representing Louisiana's Third District, Tauzin is serving his tenth term in the U.S.
House of Representatives. He was first elected in 1980. Tauzin chairs the House Subcommittee
on Telecommunications, which has jurisdiction over approximately one-sixth of the American
economy. He ranks second in seniority among Republicans on the House committees on
Commerce and Resources. He also is vice-chairman of the Finance and Hazardous Materials
Subcommittee and is a senior member of the Energy & Mineral Resources and Fisheries
Conservation, Wildlife & Oceans subcommittees.
Tauzin also serves as Deputy Majority Whip and co-founded the Mainstream
Conservative Alliance, known as Republican "Blue Dogs."

TAUZIN TO SPEAK AT SLU Add One
Before his election to Congress, Tauzin served in the Louisiana Legislature. Known as a
fiscal conservative and a national leader in the private property rights movement, he has been
honored by organizations such as the American Farm Bureau and the National Federation of
Independent Business. He received the "Watchdogs of the Treasury Award" from the National
Association of Businessmen and was named to the prestigious Concord Coalition Honor Roll for
his efforts to reduce the federal deficit.
