FOSTER TO SPEAK THURSDAY AT SLU VETERANS DAY CEREMONY 
          HAMMOND -- State Senator and gubernatorial candidate Mike Foster will speak
at 2 p.m. Thursday at Southeastern Louisiana University's Veterans Day ceremonies.
     The university will recognize retired faculty who served during World War II as well as
current Southeastern students who are veterans of U.S. armed forces. Ceremonies will be held at
the Student Union park or inside the student union ballroom, depending upon weather conditions.
The public is invited.
     The program will begin with the singing of the national anthem by student Harvey Baker.
The Reverend Thomas Cobb, director of Southeastern's Baptist Student Uion, will give the
invocation. Student Government President Troy Estopinal will welcome the audience, followed
by comments from Southeastern President Sally Clausen. Dr. Clausen also will recognize World
War II veterans who taught at Southeastern and student-veterans who have maintained a 3-point
overall average. The Student Union War Memorial plaque will be rededicated. Also attending
will be University of Louisiana System President James Caillier.
     Foster, a veteran, will be the guest speaker. The benediction will be given by Reverend
Cobb followed by a medly of military songs played by the Southeastern band.
     University officials invited Foster and candidate Cleo Fields to visit campus. Upon
receiving the invitation, Foster's office said he had already planned to be in Hammond Thursday
and would attend Veterans Day ceremonies. A Fields' spokesman said he hopes to schedule a
campus visit as soon as possible.
