WEB SURFING UP AT SLU
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University President Sally Clausen "accessed"
Southeastern's new home page on the World Wide Web at a special Aug. 1 unveiling ceremony
at the university.
Assisting President Clausen was assistant industrial technology professor Mohammad
Asoodeh, who is a member of the university's World Wide Web committee and interim web
master. Over 200 university faculty, staff and students attended the special event where President
Clausen stressed Southeastern's strong emphasis in exploring the latest technology in classroom
instruction and communication.
"Welcome to the 21st century at Southeastern," Dr. Clausen told the gathering. "We are
on top of what the next century will be about. Our university planning council has decided that
not only are our students going to be better prepared educationally, but we are going to ensure
that they are prepared technologically to meet the demands of the next century."
"The committee has done an excellent job in giving Southeastern a fresh and exciting look
on the world wide web," said President Clausen. "Our beautifully designed home page will give
visitors to our website a good first impression. It represents the quality of our programs."
"Southeastern and higher education," Dr. Clausen continued, "are facing a revolution in
communication technology. Our staff and faculty are working hard to ensure that Southeastern
meets the challenge. Making the latest technology available to our students and faculty is critical
and a top priority."
The committee, which began work in January, was headed by Beatrice Baldwin, assistant
vice president for university planning, research and policy analysis. Committee members included
Steve Soutullo, John Kemp, Lindsay Reed, Anne Sinclair, Randy Settoon, Mohammad Asoodeh,
Vinay Lobo, Kim Russell, Deborah Hebert, Troy Robertson and Gabe Breemen. The home page
was designed by public information and publications art director Julie Ruckstuhl, working with
the committee's design subcommittee headed by Asoodeh.
The web committee also drew up policy statements and guidelines for using and updating
university information on the web.
