Award-winning author Sylvia Nasar, whose acclaimed book on the tragic and triumphant life of economist John Forbes Nash was made into the Oscar-winning film “A Beautiful Mind,” will be the headliner of the fourth week of Fanfare, Southeastern Louisiana University’s annual arts festival. Nasar will speak on “A Beautiful Mind: Genius, Madness, Reawakening” at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 22, in the Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts.

Southeastern Louisiana University history professor Michael Kurtz, dean of Graduate Studies, has written books on topics such as the Kennedy Assassination and Louisiana’s colorful Earl Long – topics that have starred in Hollywood films. He will take a look at how Hollywood twists history in a special lecture, “Bad History Goes to the Movies, Episode II,” at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 23 at Southeastern Louisiana University’s Pottle Music Building Auditorium. The lecture is part of Fanfare, the university’s annual arts festival.

The uniquely talented Turtle Island String Quartet introduced the music world to a new phenomenon, the jazz string quartet. The acclaimed group will perform at 7:30 pm., Oct. 23, at Southeastern Louisiana University’s Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts during the university’s annual Fanfare celebration.

The musical troupe Tales & Scales has created a new style of performing and even coined a new word for it – “musictelling.” The group will present its unique family entertainment at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 26, during Southeastern Louisiana University’s Fanfare arts festival. The performance is scheduled for the Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts.

Downtown Ponchatoula will be festooned with hundreds of colorful quilts during the “Great Invitational Quilt Expo,” which joins Southeastern Louisiana University’s Fanfare schedule on Saturday, Oct. 26.
