William Cooper, Boyd Professor of History at Louisiana State University, will speak on “Jefferson Davis and States’ Rights in the Confederacy” at 1 p.m., Oct. 2, at Southeastern Louisiana University’s Pottle Music Building Auditorium during the university’s annual Fanfare arts festival.

Member of Parliament Julian Brazier will be a guest speaker during Fanfare, Southeastern Louisiana University’s October arts festival. Brazier’s lecture is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., Sept. 30 at the Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts, 220 E. Thomas S., in Hammond.

“My Name is Ron and I’m a Recovering Legislator” is the title of a Southeastern Louisiana University Fanfare lecture by Ron Gomez, scheduled for 11 a.m., Oct. 4, in the Student Union Theatre. Gomez’s lecture is part of the “Then and Now” lecture series sponsored by the Department of History and Political Science.

Born and raised in the lower French Quarter, Caroline Durieux became a national renowned printmaker and painter of social satire. Her work, including “Bourbon Street,” will be on display throughout Southeastern Louisiana University’s Fanfare arts celebration in October at Southeastern’s Clark Hall Gallery.

The seven-piece ensemble Ceili Rain performs Celtic music “for the pop-rock palate.” The dynamic band will perform at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 3, at the Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts during Fanfare, Southeastern Louisiana University’s October arts festival.

The Hungarian Harvest Dance is one of the highlights of the annual Hungarian Settlement Celebration, which joins Southeastern Louisiana University’s Fanfare calendar on Oct. 5.

Sue Parrill, head of the English Department at Southeastern Louisiana University, will introduce a special Fanfare Jane Austen Film Festival with a lecture titled “Bum Rolls and Curricles: Jane Austen’s World on Film” at 2 p.m., Oct. 1 in the Student Union Theatre.

Southeastern Louisiana University’s Fanfare celebration will join the city of Covington in presenting “Shakespeare at the Landing,” featuring the Dog and Pony Theatre’s performance of “The Merchant of Venice” at 8 p.m., Oct. 5 at the Columbus Street Landing.
