WOMEN'S RIGHTS: A VISUAL JOURNEY AT SLU MARCH 2-20
HAMMOND, LA -- Area artists will join in the celebration of Southeastern Louisiana
University's Women's Rights Week with the presentation of the exhibit "Women's Rights: A
Visual Journey." The exhibit will run now through March 20. A reception to meet the artists will
be held in the gallery Monday March 16, 4-6 pm.
March is National Women's History Month. Southeastern's Women's Rights Week,
March 16-20, celebrates the 150th anniversary of the movement for women's rights.
Southeastern visual arts faculty member Kim Finley-Stansbury is exhibiting her series
"Lipstick Goddesses." Ten of the twelve pieces are in Clark Hall Gallery and two are on display
in the Sims Memorial Library. Finley-Stansbury will give an informal gallery talk on the
"Lipstick Goddesses" series Wednesday March 18 at 4:00 pm.
Participating artist Sharon Jacques of New Orleans will give a lecture on women in the
arts entitled: "The Good Terrorists: An Open Dialogue and Examination of Gender Issues and
Actions of Contemporary Artists," Wednesday March 18 at 4:45 pm in the gallery.
Artists participating in the exhibit are: Adrian Deckbar, Kim Finley-Stansbury, Sharon
Jacques, Mary Jane Parker, Barbara Brainard, Rebecca Borison, Monica Creary, Linda Dautreiul,
B.F. Jonas, Tina Horenkamp Simonton, Annie Stohl, Barbara Tardo, Denise Tullier Holly,
Jesslyn Zurik.
SLU student Angela Freeman is curator of the exhibit.
