"Winamp" Installation Tutorial

 

"Winamp" is a versatile audio and video program that allows users to listen to multiple KSLU streams. A stream is a broadcast, similar to the 90.9 FM frequency radios use, except that it is made available on the internet.

Please follow the steps below:

1. Click here to install "Winamp", KSLU recommends downloading the "Full" version .

 

2. Double-click on the "Winamp" icon.

3. When the install program loads, please read the "TERMS AND CONDITIONS",

then click "I Agree".

4. Next, ensure that the "Type of Installation:" is set to "Full", then click "Next".

5. Check all boxes, EXCEPT the last box. Click "Next".

6. Check that your information matches the image below, then click "Next".

7. Depending on your internet connection, this information may be different. However, if you use a high-speed connection, (Cable/DSL modem), then you will have the same information.

 

Check the box next to "Download and install (if required)" and click "Next".

8. Click the button next to "Shared settings for all users", then click "Next".

9. Choose an interface. Either is fine, however, for this tutorial, KSLU used the "Modern skin". After choosing, click "Install".

10. The program will install, and if you are connected to the internet, the program will download any codecs (files needed to read different audio formats) that have been updated. This may look similar to this:

11. After the installation has completed, a registration message will appear. Feel free to register if you choose, however KSLU did not register during this tutorial.

Please check "Do not ask again until next install", and click "Later".

12. "Winamp" will open, for now click "Close".

13. At this time, please visit the LISTEN LIVE page, and choose which stream you would like to listen to. Once you've chosen the stream, please click on it's link. If "Winamp" doesn't automatically start playing the stream, you will recieve a dialog box similar to the image below. If you would like to download the "*.pls" file, allowing you to open the KSLU stream without visiting the KSLU site, click the button next to "Save to disk", then click "OK". If you would rather open the stream from the site everytime, click the button next to "Open with" and use the drop down menu to select "Winamp". Then click "OK".

Note: While Mozilla's Firefox was used in this tutorial, Microsoft's Internet Explorer's dialog box looks nearly the same.

 

14. If you downloaded the stream file to your computer, you will need to navigate to the location the file was downloaded to, and double-click on it. Either way, you should start recieving the KSLU stream. The player will display something like this:
