Jessie Roberts, Human Resources Director, is asking classified Civil
Service staff to donate annual leave to the Classified Crisis Leave
Pool. Due to several critical illnesses this year, the pool is nearly
depleted and is in desperate need of donations. The pool provides an
opportunity for us to help members of our Southeastern family who are in a
crisis situations. All donations will be greatly appreciated.
Ms. Roberts stated that she has received a request from Barbara
Tanner-Brooks who works in the Library. Barbara's son received critical
injuries in a bomb explosion in Iraq while he was on patrol back in
August. This was her son's third injury while serving our country in
Iraq. Barbara needs the crisis leave time in order to be off from work to
help care for her son. He has been sent to a military hospital in another
state. Since August, Barbara has exhausted all of her own leave and needs
our help so that she can continue to stay with her son as he struggles to
recover.
Ms. Roberts pointed out that contributions to the Crisis Leave Pool are
strictly voluntary. An employee donating to the pool may not designate a
particular employee to receive donated time. However, if there is no leave
in the pool, the review committee can't approve leave to be used by any
deserving employee. Donations are accumulated in the pool on a calendar
basis and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis to eligible
employees. Donations must be renewed annually. Donations are limited to the
following terms:
" an employee may donate a minimum of four (4) hours of annual leave and up
to a maximum of 240 hours of annual leave per calendar year (no sick or
compensatory leave).
" donations are made in whole hour increments.
" the donor must have a balance of at least 120 hours of annual leave
remaining after the contribution.
The employee must complete a leave form and designate the leave as a
Donation to the Crisis Leave Pool. This form should be turned in to the
immediate supervisor for approval, who then forwards the form to the
Payroll Director, who manages the Crisis Leave Pool.
The donation form can be found on the Controller's Office website at the
