Outstanding Alumnus Danny Heitman Fellowship nominee Don Paul Elbers Study Abroad grant recipient Melanie Charrier
 Phi Kappa Phi has presented its Outstanding Alumnus award to 1986 Southeastern graduate Danny Heitman, weekly columnist for The Advocate, Baton Rouge’s daily newspaper. Heitman, right, a Ponchatoula native, received the award at the chapter’s annual installation banquet on April 29 from chapter President Barbara Allen, dean of the College of General Studies.  Don Paul Elbers of Mandeville was recognized as the chapter’s nominee for a national Phi Kappa Phi graduate fellowship. Elbers has been a chapter student executive vice-president.  Melanie Charrier of Hammond, a junior majoring in history, was one of 38 students nationwide to receive a $1,000 national Phi Kappa Phi Study/
Internship Abroad.Charrier, who is a member of the university’s honors program, said she will use the grant to help fund her participation this summer in the Southeastern Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures’ Rome and Mediterranean Study Cruise.

Outstanding Honor Student Lauren Carson The chapter’s Outstanding Freshman Award went to Haley Echlin of Clinton (not shown), while Lauren Carson, left, an English major from Folsom, received the Outstanding Honor Student award.
