Our local history

Some of the original charter members of the Iota Delta Chapter.    In the spring of 1997, SLU's Interfraternal Council voted to expand the Greek fraternal system with the addition of the Theta Chi Fraternity after reviewing five fraternities who wanted to have chapters on campus. Since that time, the Iota Delta chapter of Theta Chi has striven to recruit young men of quality who are always willing to extend the helping hand to those who seek it.
In November 1999, Theta Chi achieved a milestone event when their interest groups was given colony status by their national headquarters. This was the first new member pinning ceremony held for this fraternity at Southeastern, making all of the brothers official members of Theta Chi.

Their first initiation was held on Nov. 10th with the installment ceremony the next day.
In that same semester, the members of Iota Delta signed a five year lease on their first fraternity house. In January of 2001, brothers of the chapter moved into their new home located in SLU's Greek Village before the grass for the courtyard was even planted.

Keeping with the fraternity motto to extend the helping hand, the brothers have been involved with the several philanthropies such as TARC, Adopt-A-Highway, and G.U.M.B.O. (Games Uniting Mind and Body), as well as participated in canned food drives and assisted other fraternities and sororities with their philanthropic activities. The chapter has also been actively involved in the schools intramural programs and has even gone as far as being the 2001 Greek Softball champions. Brothers of the chapter have also added to Southeastern's other campus organizations by holding such leadership roles as Presidents of clubs, editors of campus newspapers, Summer Orientation Leaders, and Senators in the SGA to name just a few. In addition to these things, the chapter makes great a commitment to hold itself to a high academic standard that has won it the IFC Highest GPA Cup in three semesters since first coming to SLU in 1997.
