You've got questions and we've got answers

1.) How much does it cost to join?

Glad you asked, it's one of my favorite questions to answer. For a new member's first semester in the fraternity it will cost him a total of $350. By the end of the second week after a new member has signed a bid card, $250 must be paid to the International Headquarters of Theta Chi to pay for a new member's fees which purchases their new member pin, badge, educational workbook and red manual. The other $100 is a fraternity house parlor fee charged by the school and is due by the time of class registration for the following semester. If their is room in the house and the new member chooses to move in, then the parlor fee is not charged.
An active member pays a total of $400 in the semesters following their first semester in the fraternity. $250 goes to the chapter to pay for formals, social mixers, philanthropies, intramural sports, chapter insurance and t-shirts. $150 goes to the school for the parlor fee. Again, if the active member decides they want to live in the house then no parlor fee is charged.

2.) Okay, well how much does it cost to live in the house?

Another good question. For the fall semester it's about $1200 plus you're required to purchase the minimum of a $450 meal plan. The Spring is the same and the summer will cost you $300 with the option of purchasing a meal plan. So you have the total of around $3600 for a year's rent in the house. This is about what you would pay in a dorm and around what you would pay at an appartment after you add in utilities and before adding the money you would pay for food.

3.) Is it required to live in the house

In one word: YES. However there are stipulations to that and you are given time to move in. If a member lives within 40 miles of the school, is married, owns their own home, or has a job which requires them to live at a certain place (i.e. a drom Resident Assistant, an appartment manager). As for the time allowed to move in, it all depends on a new members class standing when they join:

Freshmen have 3 years to live in the house for two semesters and a summer
Sophmores have 2 years to live in the house for two semesters and a summer
Juniors have 1 year to live in the house for one semester.
Seniors are not required to live in the house.
