High School Band Camp
Message from Mr. Paul Frechou

We are very excited about our 2009 Southeastern Louisiana University Summer Music Band Camp.  The camp has been completely restructured this year.  Camp will take place July 6 -10, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., and will conclude with performances on Saturday, July 11th.  The commuter camp is open to students in grades 8–12 during the 2008-09 academic year.

Each student will be required to submit an audition CD or cassette tape consisting of two contrasting selections of your choice.  The recordings will be used to appropriately place students in the various small and large ensembles by their level of musicianship before camp begins.

Dr. Glen Hemberger, Director of Bands, will conduct the Wind Symphony, and Mr. Lee Hicks, Director of Bands at Fontainebleau High School, will conduct the Jazz Ensemble.  Another highlight of our camp will be the master-classes offered by our outstanding faculty members and professional musicians from this area that will focus on the All-State and District Honor Band audition music for 2009.  Students will also be asked to choose an elective from a wide variety of selections including:  Jazz Improvisation, Auditioning for a Drum Corps, Drum Major Conducting, Instrument Repair, Tips for Improving Clarinet and Low Clarinet Tone, Rudiment Workshop, and Wind Band Conducting with Dr. Glen Hemberger.

We have put together an outstanding list of educators from Southeastern and the surrounding areas.  The New Orleans Nightcrawlers will present a concert followed by a master-class.  This group is one of the most respected brass bands with some of the finest musicians in Louisiana.

Early registration is strongly encouraged.  Tuition for camp is $230.00 which includes camp fees and lunch each day.  Click here to download a registration form.  Your registration form and audition CD or cassette tape must be postmarked by Monday, June 1, 2009.
