Fall 2009 CMS Ensembles

 

CMS Select Chorale Ensemble

Day/Time: Monday, 5:30-7:00 p.m.
Instructor: Amy Prats
Room: Annex Choir Room
First Rehearsal: September 14

This ensemble is designed for more experienced vocal students, ages 11-16. The focus is on all aspects of choral and vocal technique. Repertoire will include music from all eras and quality arrangements of folk music and jazz. Ensemble singing, blend, balance, diction, stylistic accuracy and expressive content will be thoroughly investigated. There will numerous performances throughout the year, including regional festivals and competitions. Participation is by special audition.

 

CMS Preparatory Chorale

Day/Time Monday, 4:00-5:00 p.m.
Room: 103
First Rehearsal: September 14

This group is designed for young singers, ages 7-10, to develop and improve singing skills while learning basic musicianship. There is no previous choral experience necessary, and there are several performances throughout the year.

 

 

CMS String Orchestra

Day/Time: Monday, 5:00-6:00 p.m.
Instructor: Jivka Jeleva
Room: 119
First Rehearsal: September 14

This ensemble is for all enrolled string students, regardless of age. It is designed to prepare string students for further involvement in orchestra and chamber ensembles. The young musicians who participate learn ensemble skills, listening skills, and social interaction through playing with others.

 

CMS Chamber Music

Day/Time: 60 minutes per week, as scheduled

Instructor: CMS Faculty

First Rehearsal: TBA (Fall 2009)

Chamber music is often regarded as the most rewarding of all musical literature to perform. As an educational tool, it provides fine-tuning of rhythmic, intonation and communication skills as well as stylistic guidance from faculty coaches. CMS faculty are available to work with groups of various levels and instrumental combinations upon selection.
