HISTORY OF THE CLUB In the words of our President, Veda Abene, following is the story about how the f.e. lions came into existence. In May of 2003, a lady named Pam Skibinski, an avid football fan and someone very excited about the return of Southeastern football, felt the need for an organization for female fans and worked with the Alumni Association to get the chapter started. She envisioned this group as one to answer the most in-depth questions of women interested in football. It is because of Pam that we exist today, so Pam thank you for your inspiration. I am sure you are all wondering how Pam’s idea ended up with me as President. Frankly, I’m still a little confused about that one myself! You see, Pam and her core group decided to have a contest to get the perfect name for this group and I was excited about submitting a few ideas; but somehow the ones I first came up with just didn’t have the “zing” I wanted. I developed names like, “Jungle Bunnies”, “Lady Belles”, “Lion Dolls” and “She Cats.” I was stumped. Now, how many of you believe in “Divine Intervention?” I hope you all do because that’s how I got the inspiration for our name. Many of you were, like me, blessed to know our precious Sandy Goodwin, who we lost so tragically 19 months ago. All that knew her would certainly say she was the epitome of Lion Pride all rolled up in a little short woman. And that’s when it came to me. Our name should be “FE-Lions”, female enthusiasts for LIONS football. I will always believe it was divine inspiration from the “patron saint” of Lions Football, Sandy Goodwin. Now I am sure you are still wondering how I became your first President. Well, after I submitted my idea and it was chosen, I found out that on top of the many rewards given for submitting the chosen name, one was written in tiny little letters. It said that the person who names it, gets to lead it! So here I am; you might say I am your President by Divine Intervention! With all that said, please know how excited I am about being the first President of the FE-Lions. We have only been in existence for a few months yet we have over 100 members. Our ranks include those just out of their teens and those that barely remember their teens and everything in between. What was once a spark of creativity for Pam, has become a raging fire in support of the Lions.
