The number of documented cases of the H1N1 virus continues to grow in the US and in Louisiana. The CDC recommends that anyone sick with influenza--students or facuty and staff members--stay home from school and work, to limit contact with others and keep from spreading the infectionCampuses should work to devise plans for employees to work from home and for students to be given greater leniency when missing clases in the case of a wider spread of the sickness in your area.

Updated information on symptoms, the spread of this flu, and prevention and treatment can be found at this link for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:

Community Emergency Response Team Training

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.

Any campus wishing to host a CERT Training for its faculty and staff members and/or students should contact LaCC for scheduling.
