Club Information

The Southeastern Louisiana University Rugby Football Club has been an established organization at the school since 1967. It is the oldest, and in many ways, the most prestigious college rugby club in the state. Though we are not recognized by the state as an official NCAA sport, we compete at the same level as the other sports. Rivals include the University of Southern Mississippi , Tulane, University of New Orleans , Louisiana Tech, University of Louisiana Lafayette , and many other prestigious schools in the south. We also compete in man tournaments throughout the nation form Georgia to Tennessee to Arkansas . Southeastern Louisiana Rugby is trying to do their part in making this exhilarating sport an official NCAA sport in the future. Southeastern Louisiana University Rugby competes in the Deep South Rugby Conference, where we placed 2 nd in 2003. In 2001, Southeastern won the Deep South championship, and moved to the nationals in Carolina where they beat The Citadel, but were then eliminated by one of the top contenders in the nation, defending national champions Arkansas St. Southeastern Rugby is involved every semester in non-profit activities such as; Alzheimer’s walk, adopt – a – street foundation, and project clean campus. We also are involved in fundraisers such as Rock & Roar, the Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival, and Bar-b-ques on campus. Even with a school grant each semester of around $800, we still pay most of our expenses out of our own pockets such as travel expenses and equipment. To compete at a competitive level, these expenses are mandatory. Students sacrifice lots of money to play this sport they love, however with college students, money is always tight. Please help this prestigious club maintain its competitiveness and its future.
