Southeastern Channel Wins "Best College TV Station in the South"
The Southeastern Channel was named "Best College TV Station in the South" and won First Place for "Best College Video News Program" at the annual Southeast Journalism Conference held this past weekend in Jackson, TN. Southeastern Channel and Communication students Chrissy Carter and Jessica LeBlanc also won major awards.
The success of the Southeastern Channel and its television students' success helped Southeastern Louisiana University win the top overall journalism award from the nearly 30 universities competing from the eight-state region, including Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina. It was the first time Southeastern has claimed the overall journalism award since 1999.
The Southeastern Channel was also named "Best College TV Station in the South" two years ago and has won "Best College Video News Program" the only two years the award has been in existence.. Carter, an anchor/reporter for the student news show "Northshore News", won multiple prestigious awards, including 2nd Place for Best TV Hard News Reporter, 2nd Place for Best College TV Journalist, and 3rd Place for Best Overall College Journalist.
LeBlanc, also an anchor/reporter for "Northshore News", won 1st Place in the onsite TV News Reporting competition. The heastern Channel won top awards in every televsion category. There were over 300 students attending the conference and over 400 competing in "Best of South" competition this year.
The Southeastern Channel, which has won more than 100 national and international awards in the past eight years, can be seen on Charter Cable Channel 18 in Tangipahoa, St. Tammany and Livingston parishes and on Channel 17 in Washington Parish. It can also be viewed online at www.selu.edu/tv.
